President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly planning to dissolve the federal cabinet on May 22, 2019, before he is sworn in for a second term.
Daily Trust, citing the minister of formation, Lai Mohammed, reports that as part of the dissolution of the cabinet, the president will hold a valedictory session of the cabinet May 22.
Lai Mohammed reportedly told journalists shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday, April 25, that the cabinet is still intact until May 22.
“The cabinet is still intact. We are going to have the valedictory service on 22nd of May. So you will still see more of my face,” the minister reportedly said.
Reports also emerged that ahead of the cabinet dissolution, Buhari requested for a comprehensive status reports on policies, programs and projects from cabinet members on their respective ministries, departments and agencies, there have been speculation of cabinet dissolution.
The secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha is reported to have also requested in a secular for members of the federal executive council ensure that all outstanding memoranda they intend to present to the Federal Executive Council are submitted to the Cabinet Affairs Office, office of the secretary to the government of the federation, not later than Tuesday, 30th April, 2019.
Meanwhile, a report by Vanguard has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari is in a dilemma on who to fill the ministerial slot meant for Akwa Ibom state in his new cabinet.
According to the report, President Buhari is favourably disposed to retaining the current minister of budget and national planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, but the prominent lawyer and bureaucrat is said to have pleaded to be allowed to quit public service after many years of outing.
Buhari is said to have been impressed by the minister’s level-headedness and for serving as a bridge-builder between the federal and Akwa Ibom state government since coming on board and helping to create stability and harmony among the two tiers of government.
