10 Turkish sailors abducted on Nigerian waters freed

Turkey – (warsoor) – Ten Turkish sailors, who were abducted on Vessel Paksoy-1 Ship on the Nigerian waters, have been released after spending about four weeks in captivity.

The sailors, who were abducted on July 13, were released on Friday according to navy sources and a Turkish news medium, Anadolu Agency.

The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Suleman Dahun, told our correspondent on Friday, that he did not have details of their release and would get back to our correspondent.

He said, “I don’t have the details about their release yet. Let me get back to you.”

He, however, had yet to get back as of press time.

The sailors’ ship, Vessel Paksoy-1, had been attacked while sailing without freight from Cameroon’s port city of Douala to Abidjan, after some pirates attacked the ship in the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean.

The Nigerian Navy on July 17 traced the cargo ship to a port in Ghana, while investigations had continued through the efforts of the Multi-National Maritime Centre in Benin Republic.

Our correspondent learnt on Friday that the abducted sailors had been released.

“The sailors have been freed. They are all in good health,” a source simply said.
